Pre-USMC

    The path to the Marine Corps originally intended for an Army career started in the summer of 1928, the first of those under going training in the Post-WWI Army Citizens Military Training Camp Program at the then Camp Eustis (now Fort Eustis). In high school during this period also received military training as a cadet in the Washington D.C. High School Cadet Corps. During the school year. Each of the Washington High Schools had a Cadet Regiment which was supervised and given instruction by a retired senior Army Officer of WWI vintage. The next step along the way was the D.C. National Guard, reaching the rank of corporal. The final step of the path occurred in the 1st Class (Senior) Year at the Academy in being among the 25 midshipmen of the Class of ’36, selected to receive Marine Corps Commissions upon graduation. Some who had applied did not make the cut. The selection was in order of class standing. The quota of 25 had been set up by Department of the Navy Regulations.
