PFC Sweeney landed on Iwo Jima on Feb 19th 1945.

He had his 18th birthday on Feb 25, 1945 on Iwo.

He was wounded on Mar 7, 1945. He spent 7 months in the Naval Hospital, Corvallis Oregon.

In 1950 the Marines called him back. He served in Korea and a tour in Vietnam finally retiring in 1969 as a Gunnery Sergeant.
